Some tributaries have deteriorated because of
neglect and damage to their banks. Heavy grazing
pressure by sheep and cattle have removed cover
provided by fringing grasses and caused erosion
of the banks. Trees are also becoming increasingly
dense and are shading out plants and algae which
support the insects on which fish feed. To help
open up densely shaded areas and exclude animals
from streams we wish to maintain an annual programme
of fencing and thinning trees. The work will be
conducted by contractors and staff from the Tay
Board.
