The River Shee, as the headwaters of the River Ericht is known, is a very important spawning area for spring salmon. Concerns had been expressed within the area that increasing popularity of fishing in this area might put undue pressure on spring salmon spawning stocks. In 2002 the fishing rights on a two mile section of the River Shee came up for sale. This section had never previously been fished. The Tay District Salmon Fisheries Board managed to purchase the rights to maintain it as a sanctuary area which would not be fished. The Tay Foundation contributed to this valuable initiative.
